Ratz
By Brent on Dec 13, 2010 | In Crap happens
It was a bit of a shock to find bits of nibbled foam and chomped on pens inside my new car (VE Commodore)but then again, it was a bigger shock when I realised this was perpetrated by RATS and they had also chewed on plastic fittings under the bonnet as well (that would be hood to North Americans whereas a hood in Australia is a thug, criminal, ratbag, not the type that eat cars from the inside but the type that steals car, but I digress.)
I had but one option, eviction by capture on pain of death, I first tried those so called trap and set free gizmo's, fail, the rats just kicked them around and ate the bait (Cat Cookies) then they proceeded to chew on more under car seat foam and found my sunglass, my favorite sunglass
and dined on the plastic arms, that was the last straw, I went to Bunnings warehouse, purchased 6 old fashioned load and snap backbreakers, set 4 inside the car and 2 under the bonnet baited with the reliable cat cookies (whiskers)and waited for morning. Outcome, success, 2 big old rats about the size of my foot, 11 inches long or thereabouts, both quite dead and both quite stiff, I disposed of the bodies on to an ants hill and kept the traps set for the following week, no more rats appeared so here ends the tragic story of 2 rats, 1 $35,000 car and a couple of $2 traps.![]()
